Trader Joe’s needs to up its game
Picard is France's largest frozen food retailer.
Don’t get us wrong: We hate the fact that so many classic French bistros are serving their customers frozen food. Food in restaurants should always be made at that restaurant.
However, there is a place for frozen food in France: the kitchens of locals and visitors. They have jobs and busy lives, too! That’s when frozen foods come to save the day.
Luckily for the French, their frozen food is a cut above that of the rest of the world.
We perused the website of French frozen food giant Picard and selected six options that are stylish, delicious, and deceptively non-labor intensive.

America's Most Delish
We tested hundreds and hundreds of supermarket products so you don't have to.
You can't make a list of America's most delicious foods without trying all the foods. So we did&mdash331, to be exact&mdashand we landed on this: an official guide to the best, well, everything in grocery stores. We've got you covered with 100 favorites&mdashfrom breakfast foods to dinner must-haves to the snacks you sneak at midnight.

Our kitchen experts determined that Boar's Head comes out on top in the ultimate bacon battle. That's because it's crispy but slightly chewy&mdashand perfectly smoky, but not brittle. There was no requisite salt overload, and its uniform size made it a consistently satisfying experience, bite after bite.
Some bagged bagels taste like the plastic they were wrapped in. Not Dave's Killer Bread. Even Delish's picky, New York-based editors think the brand struck gold with the chewy texture.

Puffins hold their crunch, even when drowned in milk. And unlike many flavored cereals, the peanut butter variety only packs six grams of sugar per serving.

Shh, don't tell your kids: There are chickpeas hiding in this cereal. But it's so fun to eat, they won't even notice. The pillowy corn puffs are filled with jammy apple and strawberry centers.

You'll find Coombs in major grocery stores, but you're actually supporting small businesses. The company sources its maple from a collection of 3,000-plus family farms. The syrup itself is richer&mdashin both color and taste&mdashthan most others on the shelf.

As opposed to some of its competitors, Bob's oats cook up to become hearty, creamy, and not gluey. Go ahead and eat it as you normally would for breakfast&mdashbut promise you'll try throwing it in your next smoothie for some extra oomph, too.

We thought great-tasting "just add water" mixes were an oxymoron&mdashuntil Birch Benders' package landed in our test kitchen. The pancakes turn out wildly fluffy, considering they're from a store-bought mix.

The whole grains (and other real ingredients) are probably what account for the conspicuous lack of gross freezer flavor here. And that gets our stamp of approval.

If your sandwich bread pick is fueled by nostalgia, reach for Arnold's Country White. It tastes like childhood, but is substantial enough to hold up to cold cuts and condiments (unlike another loaf that rhymes with Shmonder Shbread).

There are two reasons to love Dave's Killer Bread. One: The company stands for change, employing people with criminal backgrounds as part of its Second Chance Employment program. Two: The bread tastes, well, killer. The slices strike the perfect balance between airy and dense.
Any'tizers Boneless Chicken Bites, Honey BBQ Flavored
Boneless chicken bites with honey and barbecue sauce — sounds great, right? Wrong. Bart Wolbers, researcher and chief science writer for Alexfergus.com, suggests consumers review the ingredients before buying. A partial list includes brown sugar, sugar, corn syrup, canola oil, dextrose, high fructose corn syrup, modified food starch, polysorbate 80, smoke flavor, sodium benzoate (as a preservative), and sodium phosphates. "As you can see, many different types of sugars are added," says Wolbers, who has a master's degree in clinical health science. According to the packaging, each three-ounce serving (roughly the size of your palm, so just a few bites) contains about 7 grams of sugar, not to mention 510 milligrams of sodium (21 percent of the recommended daily allowance).
Tyson Batter Dipped Chicken Breast Tenders
You know they're not kale smoothies, just how bad could they be? Pretty bad. Though often presented as "all natural" and "gluten-free," don't be fooled. "Many varieties of this breaded and fried food contain fat," says Toby Amidor, MS, RD, CDN, FAND award-winning nutrition expert and Wall Street Journal best-selling author of The Create-Your-Plate Diabetes Cookbook. "They tend to be high in calories, filled with preservatives and artificial fillers."
"You can make your own baked nuggets using a touch of honey and whole wheat panko breadcrumbs, which keeps those nuggets nice and crunchy," offers Amidor.
Frozen French Fries: Good or Bad?
Think a box of frozen taters are a healthier option? We’ll fill you in on the pros and cons, plus give you a homemade alternative.
Frozen fries offer convenience – pop ‘em on a cookie sheet and toss in the oven. Your grocer's freezer is bursting with a wide array of options in different shapes, sizes and flavorings. You can also find certified organic and sweet potato varieties.
Frozen sacks are easy to store and may be able to help with portion control – you can take out a moderate-sized portion (about 200 calories worth per person) and tuck the rest back in the freezer.
Frozen fries are still fried! Even worse, many brands use trans fats and palm oil which aren’t ideal for heart health. While fries do need a sprinkle of salt, many bagged brands have at least 15% of the daily recommendation of sodium per serving.
While it does take a little more work initially, you can make your own frozen fries. Slice potatoes into desired shape (make them the same size so they cook evenly). Blanch in boiling water for 3 minutes and transfer to a baking sheet lined with a clean kitchen towel. Pat dry, remove towel and spread fries out in one even layer. Place baking sheet in the freezer for 30 minutes. Transfer partially frozen spuds to a freezer-safe bag and store in the freezer.
When ready to cook, place the fries on a baking sheet. Toss with olive oil, salt and pepper and bake at 400 degrees F for 30-40 minutes.
Bottom Line: Frozen fries aren’t always the healthiest alternative so be sure to read labels and watch portions if you choose to buy them. Better yet, opt to make your own.
Tell Us: We’re planning a taste test. What’s your favorite brand of frozen fries?

Do you need to thaw frozen food first?
No, you don&rsquot have to. These time and temps are meant to cook the foods straight from the freezer, in frozen state. They will cook crisp and amazing without any extra oil spray. One thing to remember is that all air fryers cook a little differently, so our recommended time and temp can vary. Best suggestion is to air fry a small portion first in your model. Then from there you will know more of what timing is best for your preferred texture.

Brown Sugar Boba Ice Cream Pops
If you&rsquore craving those deliciously chewy and caramelly pops that are seemingly everywhere on social media, look no further. Inspired by brown sugar bubble tea, the Taiwanese ice cream treats are easy to make at home. Our recipe includes instructions for the boba (bubbles) too, since the store-bought pearls used in the drinks are made from tapioca starch, which becomes quite hard when frozen. After trying various options, we found glutinous rice flour yields the ideal texture, even after a stint in the freezer.
Making Healthy Choices
When you&aposre shopping for frozen produce, what you want to look out for are the added ingredients. On the label, for the most nutritious frozen food, there should be only one ingredient: the fruit or vegetable displayed on the packaging. That means if you&aposre looking at something like frozen blueberries, check to see if there&aposs added sugar. For something like frozen broccoli, check for added salt. And for both: make sure there aren&apost ingredients you&aposve never heard of.
